Small Acres Sidebar

Mary and George Manley's Small Acres Appaloosas was indeed what its name implied: small, as in 2.5 acres populated with 12 dogs, an assortment of cats, 11 Appaloosas (6 mares -3 mares not Sundance, 2 stallions, and youngin's, and a POA mare. Their senior stallion was Commanche Sun, a son of Sunspot Revel, and the junior stallion was Sun Flight Reed, grandson of Sunspot Revel by Red Sun's Topflight.

Mary says she and George were not show people, and didn't put much faith in show records to prove whether they had a good horse or not. She says "Our main pleasure is derived from the arrival each spring of those special Sundance bloodline foals. As you know, all Appaloosa breeders are incurable optimists."

George and Mary had an "abiding interest" in Sundance horses, so she said it was easy for Ralph Cannon to persuade them to become active in the new Sundance organization, where Mary became Secretary and George became a Director. She continued. "It pleases us immensely to see Sundance 500 International becoming more of a success with each passing month, and makes the time and effort spent seem well worthwhile."

Mary said she and George did have other interests beside Sundance 500- Mary was also a member of the ApHC and the CRHA. In her spare time when not caring for dogs, cats, horses, Sundance business, Small Acres business, talking with visitors, or giving the house a lick and a promise ("You notice that is very low on the list?"), Mary indulged in her favorite pastime: drawing and painting, mostly Appaloosas, of course!

She said if you don't get a prompt answer it was probably because she was stealing time for some art work, altho if it was toward the end of the month, it's most likely working on the Sundance Newsletter.

Small Acres may be small, but we raise good Sundance Appaloosas,
and are never too busy for visitors.
